plein air adventures
My art supplies are always ready to take along with me for when I can get outdoors to paint. I will work in oil, acrylic or watercolor paints. Sometimes I will have to limit what I am able to carry with me such as on a long trail hike or if on a bike and will pack my watercolor supplies to fit into a backpack.
Notes from the 5th annual plein air Celebration 2016 at olana, hudson, ny
“On the first morning, I set up my easel beside the lovely Olana garden.. After several hours until completion, I packed up my belongings and walked downhill towards the woods that wrapped around the heart shaped pond.. I was able to see the Olana Estate house from an opening in the woods. The view was fantastic as the house was surrounded in autumnal color on top of the distant hill.”
“At 7:30 am the next morning, I could see the fog slowly lifting up out of the Hudson River Valley against the steely grey backdrop of the Catskill Mountains.”
Title: Steely Grey Mountains
Oil on canvas 10” x 20”
Over the years I have painted the landscape at the Olana Frederic Church Estate. Below are two oils on canvas.
Newport art museum’s wet paint annual event
August 1998 - 2017
Each August, I took part in the Newport Art Museum’s Wet Paint event. It was always a highlight of the summer season. On this particular August, I sat on a wet seawall as the rain fell softly on the umbrella while I painted the view of the ocean.
