Inspiration

At a very early age, I stood in awe as I watched my mother working on a portrait painting of my younger sister. Then again at about 11 years old, I witnessed her while she stood in front of the easel painting a bouquet of flowers. I felt a peaceful energy from her. It was then that I said to myself, ‘Boy does she look happy! I want to do what she’s doing’! And so my desire to become an artist began. Later in my teens, she would take me along to her private art classes where I began to model for the class. This was my introduction into the world of the studio artist.

art education

Linda’s love of the arts began at an early age. In her youth, she would take trips into NYC so that she could study the works of master artists in the museums. She was inspired by such artists as John Singer Sargent, Renoir and Matisse, Renaissance artists Michelangelo and Raphael along with many other renowned painters.

She majored in the arts at Hofstra Univerity, NY and received an MFA in art education from the Brooklyn College while continuing her painting studies at the Art Student’s League of NY.

In the early part of her career, Linda taught art education in Wildwood, NJ for eight years until relocating to Brooklyn, NY. She went on to teach not only art education but math and English at the Jackie Robinson Intermediate School 320 from 1983-2000. She enjoyed taking her students on field trips into Manhattan to see the artwork in the museums or to take a short walk over to the Brooklyn Museum and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

During the summer months while school was on break, Linda would take her art supplies into Manhattan and sit with other artists from the Art Student’s League to draw portraits for tourists.

Fine artist

During her retirement years, Linda continued to work as a fine artist by joining the local arts organizations in the Hudson Valley region of NY. She became a member of the Green County Council on the Arts and the Columbia County Council on the Arts, participating in many group exhibitions throughout the region.
